Cellulite v Fat

Files under Cellulite | No Comments »

Whilst you may associate cellulite with those who are overweight, it is important to recognise that the characteristic lumps and bumps of “orange-peel” skin can afflict even the skinniest of people.

Cellulite affects women rather than men and it is a condition that affects the connective tissue of the body.

The problem of cellulite occurs when pockets of fatty tissue become trapped beneath the connective tissue of the body. Whilst the skeleton provides a framework for the body for support and protection, the organs and tissues of the body are held together by a network of connecting tissues called the superficial fascia that lies under the skin.

The skin is fairly elastic and it will tolerate an amount of expansion and contraction caused by fluid and fat level fluctuations. The connective tissue underlying the skin is no-where near as elastic and it will not tolerate such changes.

As a result fat cells become stuck beneath the connective tissue in nooks and crannies from which they cannot escape - and this is what causes the bumps and bulges on susceptible areas of the body.

Whilst calorie controlled diets will reduce levels of fat in the body, they do not affect cellulite and it is for this reason that even the very slim can be affected by this problem.

Even if the fat cells are eventually persuaded to dissipate whether through diet exercise or massage, the connective tissue will not revert to its former shape as it has no elasticity. It’s a bit like over-filling a plastic carrier bag and causing it to become mis-shapen – no amount of smoothing and folding will restore that carrier bag to its original shape and size.

There are particular parts of the body that are more susceptible to cellulite simply because these are the areas that are prone to storing more fat in the first place. These include the thighs, hips and buttocks – all areas designed to lay down stores of fat, in days when food supplies were not plentiful, to sustain the female during pregnancy, childbirth and lactation.

Unfortunately, the genetic programming of the female body has yet to catch up with modern day food supply levels.

In comparison to cellulite, fat is remarkably easy to shift from the body. This statement should give the reader an idea of how stubborn and persistent cellulite can be. For those who are overweight, the excess weight can conceal cellulite and it is not until this excess weight is finally lost that the cellulite is uncovered and revealed. Being thin can make the cellulite appear to be worse as it is far more visible.

To rid yourself of cellulite is a long process that requires resolve and determination. Starting with a complete detoxification; continuing with a cleansing diet that is high in fluid and nutrients and incorporating regular daily aerobic exercise and weight training.

A diet high in water rich fruit and vegetables is then required for life, to prevent the problem recurring.

Massage can help, although the jury is out on whether the various lotions that are now available really do help the condition. Just the physical action of massaging affected areas to stimulate circulation, improving oxygen supply to the cells and encouraging the elimination of toxins can do nothing but good. (Massage should be avoided in any areas where there are varicose veins)

So whilst cellulite may be caused by fatty tissue initially, the problem will persist even in the absence of fat. Dieting to reduce cellulite does not work.

Cellulite treatments

You can identify whether a person has cellulite by pinching an area of skin tissue. If the skin dimples or has a rippling appearance similar to orange peel, then they probably have it. Cellulite is also a lot more noticeable when the skin is cold.

The build-up of cellulite can be reduced by a healthy diet and exercise. Keeping the body well hydrated and avoiding an excess of alcohol and coffee are a strong recommendation as these are among the worst offenders for causing cellulite.

Smoking and diuretic pills, laxative and diet pills also enhance the likelihood of developing cellulite when taken on a regular basis. Salt should also be kept to a bare minimum due to the fact it causes water retention. Exercise is also the key for good condition and the fight against cellulite problems. A good exercise regime is probably half the battle when fighting cellulite.

Most topical applications obtainable on the market do not exclusively treat cellulite although they create a smoother texture by making the skin look plumper and smoother. This effect is only temporary however and it will require you to use constant applications of creams and potions to keep up the effects. This can prove costly and time consuming.

The dimpling effect of cellulite can be reduced by using creams which contain Aminophylline. This is a bronchodilator that causes a chemical reaction which enables the fat cells to be changed into fatty acids which are able to slide through the walls of the cells into the bloodstream. These creams should be used quickly and sparingly and also kept away from heat.

The skin’s quality can also be improved by retinols and Alpha Hydroxy Acids which are found in some lotions. The elimination of the surface layer of dead skin cells can be speeded up by using cellulite lotions containing lactic acid and glycolic acid. This method is increasingly being used to fight cellulite problems in many beauty salons, however they come at a price!

Creams to treat cellulite also contain Vitamin A derivatives or Retinoids which are applied at night time since daylight destroys Retinol. Although it is debated whether Retinol is efficient at removing cellulite, it is also used to improve the skin’s circulation and softness. Certain anti cellulite lotions contain caffeine and some now also contain herbs which improve the skin’s texture and tone.

Some beauty salons advise their customers to wear a particular line of pantyhose and panties made from an unusual mesh fabric. These products are also supposed to provide a flattering exercise to the skin and adipose tissue by complimenting the body’s movements. This exercise is supposed to stimulate microcirculation allowing the fluids in the tissue to be drained. However this can be open to some interpretation.

There are also massage and rollers available that use the same principle. Although these methods do not remedy the underlying cause of cellulite, they reduce the appearance of it for cosmetic relief. However you should always bear in mind that excessive massage on areas that are affected by cellulite can cause breakage in the tiny capillaries under the skin.

Cellulite research

Cellulite is the fat deposit, found closer to the surface than the subcutaneous normal fat deposits. One of the most pressing issues for women is how to get rid of the cellulite on their body. This cellulite can be described as a dimpling pattern of fat which is found on the hips, thighs and buttocks of many women. Sometimes if they are really unlucky, some women get cellulite on their upper arms.

It is a fact that women are much more likely to have cellulite than men. This fact is due to the layout of a component in the skin called the septa and its elasticity. Due to its design, women develop cellulite as they get older and get that orange peel look on their skin.

There are several causes of cellulite. The most common is of course, aging. Cellulite is a type of fat tissue, and we can find it just below the surface of our skin. This layer of skin contains bands of connecting tissue, containing fat cells. A lack of exercise, a bad diet, insufficient water intake, birth control pills, smoking and drinking or stress are the most common causes of cellulite. Also, in some cases, genetics play an important role. If your mother or grandmother had cellulite, you will probably suffer from this condition too.

The problem that comes with cellulite is how to get rid of it. Unfortunately, none of the methods used can be considered totally effective. Yet, if you combine several ways, you can often improve your cellulite even if you can’t make it disappear. The first thing to try is some creams, gels and lotions. Depending on their ingredients, they can often have good results. The advantage is they are applied directly on the affected parts of the body, and are more likely to be effective than pills that can be taken.

There are also creams and lotions that will have no beneficial effects at all. There are some ingredients that creams need to contain in order to have positive results on cellulite. One of these ingredients is methylxanthine. Specialists have found clear evidence that show this substance penetrates the skin much easier thus reducing the cellulite aspect of your skin.

A good diet can also be of great help. Antioxidants, amino acids, essential fatty acids or lecithin based diets will reduce the amount of stored fluids; improve circulation and cellular inflammation, leading to a cellulite reduction.

Exercise is also useful in your attempt to get rid of your cellulite. There are special programs designed by physicians that usually have good results. A good exercise program, combined with a proper diet will assure your skin is much improved. The programs mean you have to take light exercises, and sometimes they can be really fun. Aerobic classes are strongly recommended. Sometimes, even long walks, playing sports, ridding a bicycle or swimming will lead to a cellulite reduction.

What you need to know about these techniques is that, only if you combine them you will have positive results. If you don’t combine them, and use one technique alone, you will only get temporarily results, and the cellulite will appear again on your body.

Cellulite Reversible The Real Story on Getting Rid of it

Files under Cellulite | No Comments »

Cellulite has been a difficult problem for women for years. Every person has cellulite in varying degrees and in most cases; it seems to get worse as we age. However, we don’t just have to deal with cellulite. There are possibilities for fighting cellulite or at the very least the appearance of it. This is with several therapeutic treatments that are available today. However, treatment isn’t a one-time deal. If you stop your cellulite treatments, it will eventually return. That means that while cellulite can be treated it is an ongoing treatment that has to be incorporated as a part of your daily beauty regimen if you want a constant and lasting reversal of cellulite.

Some treatments for cellulite can be found over the counter and do an adequate job of reducing the appearance of cellulite. To get the most out of these products you should vigorously massage the area for a few minutes before applying the treatment. The massaging will help stimulate circulation in the affected areas while the treatment will help smooth and tighten the skin. The best ingredients to look for include caffeine and aminophylline. A lot of over the counter products have seaweed but this isn’t as effective as other ingredients.

In addition to topical treatments there is a procedure known as endermology, which has been known to produce results. Endermology is a large mechanical pressure device that has a process similar to a rolling pin flattening dough for cookies. The device kneads the problem areas with substantial pressure to break down the collagen bands and smooth the skin to give the area an even and toned appearance. The drawbacks to this treatment are that it is expensive and will require return visits if you want to maintain your appearance. In addition, the treatment can be slightly uncomfortable and a little painful with some temporary bruising.

Oral herbal and medicinal remedies are another option for those trying to remedy cellulite. However, there has been not significant proof from studies that these products will actually give you results. Therefore, it is a personal decision if you want to invest your money in these products on the chance you may see results. If you cellulite is hormonal in nature these treatments may work. However if it is related to age, diet, genetics and exercise then these treatments won’t do much good. In addition, it has been speculated that if your weight fluctuates frequently, if you eat a high fat diets, or if you drink an excess of carbonated beverages then this can cause cellulite as well.

Not matter what the cause of your cellulite it, if you want to minimize the appearance then you have many options out there for you. You can choose between the methods based on what’s effective for you and what you can afford. Cosmetic enhancement products are seeing new advancements every day so if nothing works yet or is to expensive then a new method will soon come along that will work for you.

Essential Oils for Cellulite Treatment

Files under Cellulite | No Comments »

To date no magic pill or potion has provided the longed for miracle-cure for cellulite. However, there are many things that can reduce the appearance and effect of cellulite – and most of these can be tried at home for minimal cost.

One option is to use essential oils combined with massage to treat areas worst affected by cellulite.

Cellulite develops when the connective tissue that retains fat cells becomes weak allowing those fat cells to expand and push up against the skin causing the characteristic bumps and lumps that we all associate with cellulite.

Essential oils can be used in massage and also in a bath and they work to stimulate circulation and eliminate fluid retention.

A massage oil blend consisting of 5 drops of each of the following oils can be used at home:

* Grapefruit
* Cypress
* Juniper
* Clary sage

NB Orange, Lemon, Lavender or Rosemary may be substituted for any of the oils shown above. It is best to make a selection of four essential oils and use 5 drops from each one.

The essential oils must be mixed with a suitable carrier oil and then massaged on to affected areas every day immediately after a bath or shower.

Make the massage movements firm and stimulating, always applying pressure on the stroke working towards the heart. Massage should be avoided in areas where there are varicose veins.

The combined effect of the essential oils and the massage will help to break down fatty deposits and encourage the elimination of toxins by encouraging circulation.

By using a soft body brush on the skin before the bath or shower or using a loofah or scrub in the bath or shower the subsequent massage with essential oils becomes all the more effective.

Essential oils can also be added to a bath as a soak. Once again the oils can be selected from any of the citrus group – Lemon, Grapefruit or Orange plus a selection from Cypress, Juniper, Lavender and Rosemary. Choose a maximum of 4 oils and add 3 drops of each to a bath.

As for the massage, the essential oil bath soak is more effective if the skin is brushed prior to the bath or scrubbed whilst in the bath.

Essential oils are pleasant and easy to use. Many essential oils are not suitable for use in pregnancy and in this situation it is better and safer to consult with a qualified aromatherapist before self treating.

The use of oils alone will, unfortunately be enough to rid your body of cellulite, although they will help. It is also necessary to make diet and lifestyle changes to eliminate excess fat and to also strengthen connective tissue.

Salon Treatments for Cellulite

Files under Cellulite | No Comments »

Many beauty salons and spas now offer a variety of treatments that all promise to eliminate cellulite. Pandering to the desperate needs of women wanting to achieve the body beautiful image so adored by the media, the cellulite business is huge.

One treatment was developed in France some 12 years ago involves the use of a massage machine that was originally produced to give deep massage to injured horses. A side effect of the massage on the horses was noticed – smooth skin – and someone with an eye for an opportunity patented the machine for use on cellulite.

The Endermologie® machine works by exerting a gentle vacuum on the skin. The skin is sucked up into a chamber where it is massaged to encourage the break down of the underlying fat allowing it, together with excess fluid and toxins, to be carried away by the blood and lymphatic systems.

The treatment takes approximately 40 minutes and involves the client changing into what can only be described as a body stocking of white gauze like material before lying on a bed and being treated by the machine wielding therapist. If it hurts, the suction is too strong and needs to be reduced.

The effects do seem to be impressive although regular treatments are required for maintenance. This can be both time consuming and costly.

A body wrap is another salon option (although the determined can probably achieve this treatment at home with a bit of lateral thinking).

Many claims are made for the effectiveness of body wraps including that they will tighten skin, treat dermatitis, reduce size (inches), banish cellulite and eliminate toxins. They certainly seem to do all of these things – temporarily.

The process of having a body wrap usually involves undressing completely and donning a pair of unflattering paper knickers before being covered in whatever substance that particular salon promotes. Sometimes this will be a marine type gel, others use a clay based substance and some use a mix of Dead Sea minerals.

The body is then effectively mummified – the therapist envelopes every part in bandages. Sometimes these bandages are presoaked in another solution to assist with the drawing out of impurities.

Some body wrap systems wire the client up to a machine that emits a low current to stimulate circulation and elimination even further. This apparently feels like an army of ants walking up your extremities.

The client is usually left, sometimes under a heated blanket, for anything up to 90 minutes for the wrap to work its magic. Once the treatment time is over the bandages are removed and, depending on the nature of the treatment substance used, the excess may need to be showered off before dressing and going home.

Once again there appears to be no doubt that this treatment offers an immediate improvement in the tone and appearance of the skin and inches are indeed lost. However, the effects are once again temporary and repeated treatments are required to keep problems at bay.

Seven Silly Myths about Cellulite

Files under Cellulite | No Comments »

Cellulite is one of those pesky things that often leave people confused and stunned. Even supermodels are getting cellulite, which makes one believe that it has more to do with genetics and lifestyle than it does anything else. Experts are researching and finding out more than ever about cellulite, however there are still various silly myths floating around about cellulite. Take a look at these seven silly myths about cellulite to get a better understanding about the condition in general.

Carbonated Beverages v. Cellulite

One of the most common myths about cellulite is that drinking carbonated beverages will cause it to appear. The myth is focused on the untruth that the sodium in carbonated beverages and soda pop causes swollen fat cells. The truth is that cellulite is not composed of swollen fat cells. Cellulite cells are close to the skin and are fat cells, but they are not swollen cells. They are actually cells that are trapped in the connective tissue near the skin and become deformed as a result of the entrapment. So, although water is likely a better way to hydrate yourself, drinking soda pop or other carbonated beverages won’t give you cellulite.

Age v. Cellulite

Many people think that only old people get cellulite. In fact, they often think that you have to be over 40 to get this annoying skin problem. However, the truth is you are more likely to get cellulite at an older age, due to the skin thinning as you age. But, you can begin to get cellulite at any age. In fact, teens are now complaining of cellulite!

The Body v. Cellulite

The most common places for cellulite to appear are the thighs and buttocks. In fact, one myth is that these are the only places on the body that cellulite can appear. Those who have cellulite in other locations know this myth is not true, but many people still believe it. Cellulite is so annoying that it can show up in many different places. It is frequently seen on arms and stomachs as well, but there is really no place it could not appear.

Weight v. Cellulite

Another myth about cellulite is that only fat people experience it. This is one that has been disproved many times over the past few years. Even if you are thin, you can still get cellulite, which is often disturbing to many skinny people of the world. Again, supermodels are coming forth complaining of cellulite and they are likely the thinnest people of the world.

Exercise v. Cellulite

While it is true that exercise will help you prevent cellulite, it is a myth that exercise will take away any form of cellulite. In fact, many people still have cellulite, even though they work out daily. Cellulite can be hard to get rid of because it is trapped in the area of connective tissue by your skin. Therefore, even if you lose weight or build muscle, that area may or may not be affected by your work.

Society v. Cellulite

The sixth myth of cellulite is that society doesn’t want to see it. For instance, there are millions of women who refuse to wear shorts in the hottest temperatures because they have cellulite on their legs. The truth is that society is more accepting of cellulite than you might think. In fact, people rarely take too much notice of it, and even if they do, they never comment on it. So, go ahead and be comfortable. Life is too short to worry about what other people think!

Creams v. Cellulite

The last myth states that there are creams that can take cellulite away forever. This is simply not true either. You cannot count on a cellulite cream to take away your problem. There are creams that may be able to help reduce the appearance of cellulite, however they cannot guarantee your cellulite will be cured, because there is no cure for it.

Why don’t men get cellulite?

Files under Cellulite | No Comments »

Cellulite is that horrible dimpling pattern on your skin which is caused by globules of underlying adipose tissue. Cellulite is not a medical or scientific term but refers only to aesthetics.

If you are a woman, you may be more familiar with cellulite, that stubborn dimpling on your thighs, hips or buttocks that gives your skin the texture of an orange peel. This undesired effect is not produced by a lumpy kind of fat, but it is produced by the way the tissue beneath your skin traps the fat.

The collagen fibers that connect your muscles to the skin are arranged in a honeycomb pattern, and each of the chambers is filled with fat. When these small rooms get too full of fat, they bulge against the skin, giving it an unpleasant aspect. This is what we all call cellulite. All around the world, at least 85% of women (preferable after their 30s), develop cellulite on different parts of the body: hips, buttocks, thighs and even on the arms.

Why don’t men get cellulite? This is a question that most of the women look for a response. And who said that men don’t develop cellulite on their body? It is true, that this is a rare effect, but there are enough men with cellulite nowadays. The right question in this case should be, why do men get cellulite so rarely? Well, this happens because men’s skin is thicker than women’s and their collagen fibers are not arranged vertically, but in a horizontal crisscross that holds fat firmly, and not letting it press against the skin and give it an ugly look.

Cellulite is not necessarily a factor of body weight, so you can find really fat men with no cellulite at all. On the other hand, you can find young slim men that develop cellulite, especially on their abdomen. Cellulite can affect both men and women of any age, weight, size or body structure.

And in case you are a men suffering from this condition, there are enough ways to get rid of it. A woman could give you some reliable advices. Some of the things that you can do to get rid of cellulite include:
- eat healthy foods;
- exercise every day for at least 15-20 minutes;
- avoid smoking, drinking or taking drugs;
- avoid foods that contain large amounts of salt and fats;
- do not skip meals, and stick to a balanced program

If all these will have no results, there are some special treatments options, such as liposuction, laser and ultrasound cellulite treatments, massages or spa sessions. You just have to choose the one that suits your needs and budget.

Cellulite is quite different from fat and everyone at a certain age will develop cellulite on their body. Man or woman, young or old, the human body has cellulite under the skin. With a proper diet, nutrition and exercises, you can definitely eliminate cellulite. Medical massages, treatments, and supplements are also available to reduce the appearance of cellulite, and regain the beautiful aspect of the skin.

You Can Blame Hereditary too for Cellulite!

Files under Cellulite | No Comments »

Just as experts are striving to find out if there are any extremely effective ways to treat cellulite, they are also striving to figure out if cellulite is hereditary or not. The truth is that most scientists think it is hereditary. They think genetics play an enormous role in whether someone will have cellulite or not. While many think this is a bad thing, it really will prove to be beneficial in the cellulite battle over time. Take a look at this information to get more of an idea of what they mean.

From Birth

Many experts claim that when a skin biopsy is taken from a newborn infant, they can tell if that child will be likely to have cellulite throughout their living years. They look at the fibrous bands along the septa. This is something that is passed from mother to baby. The experts claim they can not only tell if that child will get cellulite later in life, but also how severe it will be. It must be remembered however that there are other factors that can determine how the child will fair with cellulite. For instance, if they grow up with a not-so-healthy circulatory system, they may cellulite worse than first expected.

Lifestyle

In addition to being plagued at birth with cellulite probabilities, you can link family lifestyles to cellulite. For instance, if you mother is not an active person and never really made you exercise or eat right, you might be at more risk for more severe cellulite. In fact, you may pass these unhealthy behaviors right on to your children as well. So, when you look at genetics, you also have to consider family lifestyle. Family lifestyle can be just as detrimental as genetics.

The Brighter Side

There is a bright side to cellulite being genetic. When scientists can link cellulite to specific gene patterns, they can likely find out more about it and what you need to do to treat it. In addition, if your cellulite is a family affair, you will likely always feel like you fit in, whether you have cellulite or not. You can swap treatment options and save time by telling your family members what works best for you. So, even though you might be bummed you got your cellulite from your mother, there is a brighter side to it all.

Of course, as time goes on and more studies and research are performed, it could be that there is new information found on how much cellulite and genetics are linked. In addition, there may even be new treatment options emerging as more and more information is found. So, although it may seem like a bad thing, it is good that cellulite seems to be linked to specific gene patterns. In fact, women may be able to treat their cellulite altogether because of it in the next twenty or thirty years. Although research takes time, there is hope for new and improved cellulite treatments in the years to come.

No cellulite diet

Files under Cellulite | No Comments »

Most women in their 30s have problems with cellulite. There are several causes, such as the lack of exercises, alcohol and drugs, stress or aging, but no one really knows what exactly causes the problem of cellulite. To be honest, there are many specialist that offer several treatment techniques for cellulite without being sure that they really work.

One of the methods believed to be effective against cellulite is a person’s diet. There is no actual or specific diet which will reduce or cure cellulite, the best you can hope for is to eat healthily and ensure you drink plenty of fluids. (It helps cellulite, but doesn’t prevent or cure it).

Here is how a common cellulite diet usually works for those inexperienced and gullible enough to pay large amounts of money.

To start off with, you will be advised to avoid toxins and foods that kill. We are all aware of this, and you don’t have to be a specialist or a genius to figure out you shouldn’t be eating these types of food.

The water cure is often propagated as a cure for cellulite, but again its effects are only minimal. You may also be recommended to consume more and more natural and organic foods, avoiding drinking and smoking, drugs and stress. Some diets will also include some exercises.

When it comes to cellulite diets, there is just one aspect that is useful and true, and this is that eating healthily and drinking more fluids brings benefits to your body. But it is far from the truth to say they will eliminate cellulite from your thighs, hips and buttocks.

Such a diet will improve the blood circulation and the nutritional health of the person; however it won’t cure their cellulite. It is much better to consider this type of diet a healthy eating and cleansing plan than an anti cellulite diet.

So, if you have a cellulite reduction plan, a diet is not absolutely necessary. Yes it can help you in your attempt to eliminate your cellulite but to reiterate the point, it won’t cure it.

If you really want to try something to help further your attempts to decrease your cellulite, then physical activity is the answer combined with topical creams and massages. You should then see a definite improvement in your cellulite problems.

An exercise plan will also eliminate toxins from your body. This is achieved by sweating. During the process of sweating when exercising, sauna or drinking hot tea in a warm room, you eliminate considerable amounts of toxins from your body, this assists in decreasing cellulite and ensuring your skin looks a lot smoother.

Don’t let yourselves fooled by all those promises made by those companies trying to sell you an anti cellulite diet which promises great results in a matter of days, it’s not true, and you are doomed to disappointment.

Your attempts to reducing cellulite can only be achieved by a strict plan, that doesn’t even necessarily include a diet. Do some research before you plan your diet, and don’t be afraid to ask for professional help. Your physician is a good start, as he will tell you the truth about any claims made about any diet’s anti cellulite effects.
